Will I be able to claim the full subscription cost as a business expense?2020-11-30T01:50:33+00:00

If you subscribe to a vehicle that is only used for business purposes, you should be able to claim the full subscription cost as a business expense. If you use your vehicle for both business and personal trips you will need to work out how to allocate costs correctly.

Whether or not you can claim a business tax deduction will depend on your personal circumstances.  In all cases we advise discussing this with your accountant.

  1. Charging
    • You need to have a parking space at home or work that is within 5m to a power source to charge the car.
    • The car does not need to be in a garage, as long as the charging cable can be connected directly from the power source to the car without an extension cable
  2. Distance per charge
    • You travel up to 100km per day and have the capacity to charge it overnight when the battery is low
    • Hyundai Ioniq go up to 250km on a full while the Nissan Leafs go up to 100km (+/- 20% variant depending on drive terrain, a/c powered, etc.)

EVs can be charged in 2 ways:

  1. Slow charge from any NZ plug point – this will take anywhere from 10 – 12 hours from 20% to 90%+
  2. Fast charge from any fast charging stations around the country. See www.plugshare.com or download the app for more info.

All our EVs come with charging cables that enables you to charge your EV from home. We highly recommend slow charging your EV if time allows as this would preserve the longevity of the battery.

The time required to charge electric vehicles varies widely depending on the model of the car, age of the battery and which port / EVSE you are charging with. As a guide for reference see below from our EV fleet:

  • Home charge: 15 – 18 hours

Yes, you can. EV charging cables and charge ports are waterproof.

Distance varies depending on the make and model, battery’s state of health (SOH), driving style and terrain but as a guide, distance per full charge are as below:

  • 2017 Hyundai Ioniq: 240 km on a full charge
  • 2015 Nissan Leaf: 100km on a full charge
  • 2014 Nissan E-NV200: 100km on a full charge

Turners Subscription is a vehicle subscription service where you pay a fixed monthly subscription fee depending on the package you choose for the right to drive the vehicle of your choice. As a subscriber, you are also entitled to switch vehicles once every 30 days depending on your needs. Your subscription fee will cover comprehensive insurance, maintenance and service, RUC (if applicable), WOF and roadside assistance – all you need to pay is petrol

There are many advantages of car subscription compared to buying a car. To buy a car, you need to save the full amount before you can use the car, which may take months or years. A Turners Subscription is charged every 15 days so you can get into a car more quickly. Buying a car also takes a lot of time researching, inspecting and negotiating. To help you manage your finances, your monthly recurring subscription fee will be charged to your credit card in two instalments. You will pay 50% at the commencement of the subscription and the balance 15 days later.

To subscribe to Turners Subscription you have to be over 21 years of age, have a full New Zealand Drivers Licence and a valid credit card.

Up to 2,800 free kilometres are included per month. When you start your subscription, you can choose how many free km you would like to be included with your subscription by choosing an Entry, Standard or Premium option.

You will need to provide basic personal information and upload a copy of your New Zealand Drivers Licence and the identification page of your passport confirm your identity. To confirm your subscription, you will need to consent to a credit check.
